Houston Hum grew up in Arkansas but moved to the Indianapolis area after graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 2007 with a degree in Accountancy.  While at Notre Dame, he received the Tara K. Deutsch Award, “awarded to the accounting senior who has shown exemplary social consciousness and devotion to efforts to give hope to the less fortunate.” He received his law degree with honors from the Indiana University McKinney School of Law in 2013, where he was selected to the Moot Court Order of the Barristers and multiple national competition teams.

Before attending law school, Mr. Hum earned his CPA license and worked in the tax department of a Big Four accounting firm. His unique background gives him valuable insights and informs his analytical approach to complex legal matters.  Hum is admitted to practice before all Indiana state courts, both United States District Courts in Indiana, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

For more than 10 years, Mr. Hum worked as a civil defense attorney for two highly regarded Indianapolis law firms, where he earned a reputation for defending cases vigorously, but always with compassion.  Over the past decade, Mr. Hum developed positive relationships with many insurance company representatives and attorneys on both sides of the aisle.  Hum is skilled in investigating accidents, particularly those involving trucks. He has successfully handled lawsuits related to personal injury, wrongful death, premises liability, construction defects, exposure to mold/toxic substances, accounting and legal malpractice, and product liability.

In 2022 and 2023, Mr. Hum was selected a Rising Star by Indiana’s Super Lawyers Magazine, an honor bestowed upon only 2.5% of eligible attorneys, based largely on the perception of other attorneys.  He was also recently recognized by The Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch for Product Liability Litigation and Transportation Law.

Mr. Hum is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association, and the Indianapolis Bar Association.  He is honored to join several friends and colleagues at Wagner Reese and to use the insights he gained defending civil cases for the benefit of the plaintiffs he represents.  He is eternally grateful for the opportunity to practice law, which he absolutely loves.

Mr. Hum and his wife live in Noblesville with their three daughters and son, whose activities and interests have become their own.  They are parishioners of Christ the King Catholic Church in Indianapolis.  Aside from his children’s interests, Mr. Hum enjoys watching Notre Dame athletics, Butler basketball, and America’s greatest game, baseball.
